Self-Discharge Purpose

The Electrochemical Energy Self-discharge script records changes in cell voltage as a battery’s internal chemical reactions reduce stored capacity without connections to the electrodes.

This is a half-cell, full-cell, stack, or dual-electrometer experiment. Dual-electrometer mode is only available with the Interface 5000.

This script may be useful for determination of

• The self-discharge rate of a battery
• Shelf-life, and whether previous discharge cycles influence self-discharge rate
• When used with heating or cooling systems, effects of temperature on self-discharge rate.
