Purpose of Cyclic Thermammetry
This experiment is used to evaluate the corrosion tendency of a metal sample as a function of temperature. During the experiment, the specimen is held at a constant potential using a Gamry Instruments potentiostat. The cell current is recorded as the software uses the temperature controller to slowly sweep the cell temperature. The resulting plot is log(current) versus temperature.
The sweep is reversed when the temperature reaches an Apex value. The reverse sweep continues until a Final Temperature is reached. This experiment produces a curve that looks similar to the curves produced by the Cyclic Polarization experiment but with temperature, not potential, as the independent variable.
