Simple EPR

Description

Simple EPR calculates a degree of sensitization to Intergranular Stress Corrosion Cracking in heat-affected stainless steels. This command is only available in the Reactivation Analysis package.

You can find a detailed description of the simplified reactivation test in A.P. Majidi and A. Streicher, “Non-Destructive Electrochemical Tests for Detecting Sensitization in ANSI 304 and 304L Stainless Steels,” in Electrochemical Techniques for Corrosion Engineers, R. Baboian, ed. NACE, Houston, TX, USA, 1986.

The analysis for the Simple EPR test consists of measurement of the height of a current peak, and normalization of the current to either a standard grain size or to a grain-boundary area. The magnitude of the resulting normalized current is a direct measure of the degree of sensitization.

Method

  1. Select the Simple EPR command from the document menu. A window appears. In this box you are asked whether you wish to normalize the current to the Grain Boundary Area (GBA) measured microscopically, or to the ASTM Grain Size Number (GSN).
  2. When you are satisfied with your entries, click Calculate. The computer then automatically calculates the peak current and normalizes the current.
  3. Results are presented in the Quick View area at the bottom of the chart. You can hide the Quick View window by clicking the X on the side-bar of the Quick View.
