The Set a Current utility is used to apply a current to an electrochemical cell and measure the voltage resulting from that current. This utility is used for basic tests that do not need the sophistication of Gamry’s applications software.
It creates a graph of current versus time with 60 seconds of data recorded at 0.5 second per data point. You can use the Set a Current function regardless of the instrument tier assigned to your Gamry Instruments potentiostat.
The displayed data cannot be saved for later analysis. |
Run this utility by selecting Experiment > Utilities > Set a Current on the Framework™ menu bar. The Set a Current window opens:

Select the potentiostat/galvanostat to perform the experiment. Each radio button corresponds to an installed potentiostat. You can select only one potentiostat at a time. Potentiostats that are already in use are marked with an asterisk. They can be selected but cannot be used. |

Surface area of the sample in cm² that is exposed to the solution. The software uses sample area for calculation of the current density and corrosion rate (if applicable). If you do not want to enter an area, we recommend that you leave it at its default of 1.00 cm².

Unlike most of Gamry’s other experiments, you can choose to leave the cell on with current applied after the 60 seconds of data have been recorded. After 60 seconds have elapsed, a Cell Information dialog box appears:
